Ben Hewett will be presenting the public lecture:

The South Australian Government Architect, The Integrated Design Commission and 5000+

This will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 7th September 2011, Level 5 Architecture Studios – Faculty of DAB (Building 6), 702 – 730 Harris St, Broadway 2007

Ben discusses the Integrated Design Commission, a model unique in Australia, and his role as Government Architect and Executive Director leading the Commission. Ben will also present the early work of 5000+, An Integrated Design Strategy for Inner Adelaide, of which Ben is Director.

5000+ is Australia’s most ambitious urban project. It is intended as a pilot for how Australian cities might design, plan, develop and govern our cities. In a first for Australia, the project is a collaboration between the Australian Government, the South Australian Government, Adeliade City Council and seven inner metro Councils to create both a model for use elsewhere and a vision to redesign and revive inner Adelaide.

Ben Hewett is the South Australian Government Architect, and Executive Director of the Integrated Design Commission SA. In his role Ben provides strategic advice to government and advocates for the discipline ofarchitecture by working across government and with industry and academia. Ben is a keen advocate for design quality and promotes collaboration as vital to successful design processes and projects.

Ben has previously worked as an architect in large and small practice as well as government. He is currently Director of Offshore Studio, an architectural design research practice. Prior to his role as South Australian Government Architect, Ben was a Senior Lecturer with the University of Technology Sydney. At UTS he researched and taught various Design Studios, and developed and coordinated the Architectural Practice stream. In Ben’s previous role as Design Director at Crone Partners Architecture Studios he led design teams on a number of large commercial and residential buildings as well as master plans in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Dubai and China. Prior to this role, Ben was a Design Architect in the NSW Government Architect’s Office.
