The UTS Architecture School made the Chippendale Creative Precinct ‘shine’ with seven large-scale light installations for the BEAMS light festival. As part of the Co-productions elective co-ordinated by Sandra Karina Löschke and Mike Day, seventeen Master of Architecture students teamed up seven Masters in Lighting Design students to produce interactive installations intended to engage their audience intellectually as well as experientially. The ‘flying jellyfish’ installation by students Hyuna Lee, Jane Lee, Mattia Bravin and William York starred in an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, and Cheng Zhuang’s, Ying Su’s and Parnmoonin Komkham’s ‘nerves’ installation was featured in the Inner West Courier.
The festival was opened on the evening of 22 September by Sydney Mayor Clover Moore and elicited an enthusiastic response from thousands of visitors who had been attracted to the event. Sandra and Mike regard the Coproductions subject as a pilot project for further successful collaborations.
