UTS’s Great Hall will undergo a once-in-a-generation reinvention that is set to transform the primary ceremonial venue which plays host to graduations, public lectures and other major events of the university.
John de Manincor and Adam Russell, principals of DRAW and contributors to teaching in the School of Architecture, UTS, put forth the design proposal which includes a faceted metal-panel surface,‘The Mantle’, which will be grafted onto the existing Great Hall structure. Another important design change is the ‘Balcony Room’. The concept design by DRAW was chosen as part of a design competition involving three other architectural practices.
Construction is to begin in 2011 and the transformation due for completion in 2012.
