ReMaster: Louis Kahn’s First Unitarian Church 1959, Rochester NY

Taking Louis Kahn’s First Unitarian Church in Rochester as a starting point, the project decomposes the original programmatic hierarchy of religious architecture into a transitional journey of sacred to profane space. Exaggerating the religious thresholds through which one passes towards a journey for religious truth, the project employs self-organisational principles and iso-surf logic to create new interrelationships within religious architecture. The resulting monolithic structure rises 60m from the ground in a series of non-linear journeys, redefining the very notion of sacred space.
